Energy Saving

With Spring here at last now is the perfect time to start saving energy in your home and reduce your fuel bill. It seems everyday the price of fuel at the pumps continues to sore, home heating oil, gas prices and electricity are all effected by ever increasing fuel prices.

The folks in our Energy Performance Assessment department here at NI Property Group have comprised a simple and effective way in how you could potentially save on your home fuel bills this spring by following a few very simple steps and leave you with extra cash in your pocket at the end of the month.

Light bulbs – If you switch every bulb in your home to a low energy bulb you could potentially save approximately £50 per month, they also last considerably longer than the old style bulbs.

If feasible only turn on radiators in rooms you are using. If you do not have Thermostatic Radiator Valves (TRV) fitted to your radiators then we advise you look into having them fitted. They are fantastic in that you can adjust the temperature up or down to suit your needs and avoid wasting fuel on overheating your rooms.

Cavity Insulation – Insulation is one of the most effective ways to save energy and make your home warmer. Cavity Wall Insulation can give huge savings along with double glazed windows, increasing loft insulation to 300mm and draught proofing. At the minute there may be grants available from the Energy Saving Trust.

Leave all electrical gadgets such as televisions, phone chargers and radios completely turned off when not in use. Leaving gadgets on standby wastes over £900 million worth of energy in the UK every year. Simply turning off household items rather than leaving them on standby could save you approximately £115 every year.

Turn Thermostats down by 1 degree. It may be hard to believe but if you turn down room thermostats by just 1 degree, you could potentially net yourself a saving of £60 per year.

These are just some of the few simple steps home owners can generally take quite quickly and which are relatively inexpensive to start making savings on your home energy bills.
